Is CONTROL Resonant a Soulslike?
Answer: No — CONTROL Resonant is not marketed as a Soulslike. It is a Remedy action RPG: melee-first combat with the shapeshifting Aberrant, Perfect Dodges, Falters/Executions, zone-based Manhattan exploration, and freely respeccable talents. Difficulty is adjustable via Assist Mode in Gameplay options — including options that still allow trophies.
What feels “Souls-adjacent”
- Melee timing, dodge windows, and boss encounters (Resonants) matter more than cover-shooter gunplay from Control (2019).
- Death / retry loops exist in combat, but the game is not built around opaque multiplayer invasions or classic Souls build-lock.
What is not Soulslike
- Assist Mode and accessibility options (Remedy’s launch FAQ / Gameplay menu).
- Free talent / artifact respec at The Gap — build mistakes are not permanent.
- Zone-based structure with Map Kits and fast travel — not a contiguous interlocking Souls map.
- Story-led Remedy campaign with side stories and collectibles, not a pure boss-rush RPG.
